LIABILITY RELEASE

PINON HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH (which includes all DBA's, related brands & new brand names) hereinafter referred to as “PHCC” requires all participants for MARKSMAN ADVENTURE TRIPS hereinafter referred to as “MARKSMAN TRIPS” to agree to this Liability Release prior to registration for any MARKSMAN TRIPS. Furthermore this form releases PHCC or its staff, officers, or appointed vendors to video and/or photograph and use said videos and/or photographs of attendees for use in its publications, advertising, promotional purposes, internet, and/or visual presentations which inform people of the services and activities of PHCC and MARKSMAN TRIPS. Agreement to this Liability Release during the registration process confirms Agreement to Attend, Participate, Assumption of Risk, and Release Form in order to attend PHCC and to participate in any PHCC/MARKSMAN Trips.

IN CONSIDERATION of attending any MARKSMAN Trips, I acknowledge, appreciate, and agree that:

1. Attendance and Activities at PHCC or offsite Trips may include but are not limited to swimming, strenuous hiking, activities, paint ball, ropes course, giant swing, night games, disc golf, walking, and other Summer/Winter related sports and activities. I realize that unanticipated and unexpected dangers may arise during and associated with the above activities. I voluntarily agree to accept any and all risks of injury, death or damages of any nature resulting directly or indirectly from participation in these activities.

2. I understand that attendance at PHCC and/or MARKSMAN TRIPS, regardless of location, and participation in any PHCC activities can be physically and mentally intense. If I observe any unusual or unnecessary hazard during my participation, I will bring such to the attention of the nearest official as soon as practical. I understand that MARKSMAN TRIPS are inherently dangerous due to the nature of the activities participants choose to engage with during such MARKSMAN TRIPS; and,

3. I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representative and next of kin, HEREBY RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS PHCC, Matt Mizell, PHCC officers, pastors, officials, agents and/or employees (“Releases”), WITH RESPECT TO ANY AND ALL INJURY, DISABILITY, DEATH, or loss of damage to person or property, WHETHER CAUSED BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEE OR OTHERWISE, except that which is the result of gross negligence and/or misconduct. I am aware that willful participation in inherently dangerous MARKSMAN TRIPS is not considering "gross negligence" and/or "misconduct", and I assume all risks and take responsibility for said risks.

4. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and other "Acts of God", MARKSMAN TRIPS may be altered, moved or canceled without notice. Refunds will be given if registrants cannot attend due to changes to the trip's date.

5. I understand and agree that this Release of Liability Agreement covers attendance and each and every MARKSMAN TRIP, activity and event in which I participate hereafter.

I HAVE READ THIS RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT, FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS TERMS, UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY AGREEING TO IT, AND SIGN IT FREELY AND VOLUNTARILY WITHOUT ANY INDUCEMENT. I UNDERSTAND THAT I CANNOT REGISTER FOR PARTICIPATION WITHOUT EXPRESSLY AGREEING TO THIS LIABILITY RELEASE.

One of my favorite authors, CS Lewis, once said:

Maybe you’ve never produced music or baptized anyone, but I think we can still be friends since I'm pretty sure you and I still have something in common: YOU'RE SCREWED UP!

I know I just insulted you/us, but keep reading!

Truth be told, some of my greatest life stories capture "Heck yeah!" successes, but most of my experiences include “What did I just do?!” failures. It makes sense though. Somewhere along the way I bought into the idea that failure doesn’t have to be permanent.  Failure is merely a learning opportunity and brings you one step closer to getting it right. It is for this reason that failure has led me to some of my sweetest victories.

“Friendship is born at the moment when one man says to another 'What! You too?'”

If you look close enough, every story from the past provides a learning opportunity for the future. My life mission statement is this:

There's a lot of leaders out there, but I've discovered that about 90% of them aren't worth following. Become a leader worth following. You may figure out how based on trial and error… OR you can learn from the past experiences of others so you can leapfrog over their failures and gain insight from their wins.

Let's play leapfrog.

It's not that I believe I have mastered any of my passions, but I have found a leader worth following: Jesus. I invite you to join my journey as I continue to explore and apply what I have learned from the greatest leader of all time. Simple and small action steps will not only help you become a leader worth following, but a leader who IS followed. Let's do this.

“To inspire and equip others to become leaders who are worth following.”

My hope is that you can take simple and small action steps based on each blog post that will help you become a better leader. You’ll be amazed at how far you can go by taking one small step at at time.
